This seems like quite an old thread :o..

But yeah here's something I stuck together for my forums and students at my teaching job..

http://www.gamertonight.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=798

Basically a guide line to becoming self taught in flash.

I just want to say that copying and pasting code is a HEAVILY frowned upon by the Flash community.
If you plan on making something actionscript heavy (Like a game), then you should really just learn to code.
ALTHOUGH, if you want something widely used like a Vcam then that's fine.

thanks for that link, and just to make clear, i wouldent be useing it for gameing, and if i was going to create a game, i would take the time and do the actionsript myself.

Something I'm never good at is layers. How do you decide what goes on a layer?

Should one moving piece be on its own layer? How do you keep things together but allow them to move separately (example, an arm connected at the shoulder and elbow that each move on their own but must stay together)

If something needs to move without interfering with another something, then it needs to go on another layer.
Keeping them together is just a process of manual labour.
Although, if you put all the bits and pieces into a movieclip/graphic symbol, animating within them will allow you to move the entire object as a single one on a single layer.

Flash tutorial Page

Here is a list of tutorials I helped throw together a few months ago.

http://artistshospital.deviantart.com/art/...orials-97817799

This link contains . . .

-creating a vcamera for zooming, panning, and fades rather than changing your content on the stage (action script 2.0 only)
-basic training(using the tools,basic code, etc )
-video tutorials on making fbf animations in flash( using the onion skin tool to properly sync animations)
-Sound and music(Some royalty free some you may have to pay)
- and advanced coding in other portions of the list

Quick notes about using the vCamera(a quick run down of how to work it without reading the long pages of its usage)
-whatever the camera see is what your audience sees this means you can have a pretty big work area
-to create a fade to white or black all you need to do is change the brightness in your movieclip properties(should be under "Color:")
(-100%=black fade) and (+100%=white fade)
-to create a smooth natural tween when you pans, tilts, or zooms with your camera after you tween select your first frame then look within your properties you see something labeled Ease moving the slider to (-100% in) starts the tween off slowly and then begins to pick up speed and performs the complete opposite when you set it to (+100% out)
-this method is great you can use it to your own creations too for example like creating a bouncing ball or something that is flying through the air

Here are a bunch of flash tutorials.

Really helped me out, and they weren't that hard to find.

Or, if you can afford to spend a little money and want to get all of your learning properly structured, you can go with something like THIS:

http://www.amazon.com/Macromedia-Flash-Professional-Hands-Training/dp/0321293886

I'm sorry if I'm pissing in anybody's pool considering the title of this thread, but it is my opinion that random tutorials do not have the same effectiveness as structured learning in book form. A tutorial won't take you gently from the very core basics to the advanced stuff.

There are literally hundreds of things that you need to know in flash, and no tutorial that I have ever seen takes the educational experience from start to finish without leaving massive holes. (Mostly because that front-to-back explanation would require something the length of a book plus years of personal experience.)

Again, I'm not trying to antagonize anybody here, I'm just giving my two cents. I learned flash using this very book and I swear by it.

(...and, no. I'm not getting paid to plug it.)

It's just trial and error. It's how I learned anyway, basically what I'm trying to say is that you learn as you go. This is a neat topic so If anyone has questions I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability
