But Kony isn't supported by anyone.
That's why he's an "easy target". He can be taken down easily.
Osama was hard to defeat due to the fact he hide under a world-wide terrorist organization, Gaddafi because he controlled a lot of oil that was destined to America, Saddam because again oil.
Etc, etc. Not to mention, lately we all need hope. Real hope, in these troubled times could do us good.
I'm a cynical bastard like all of you, but sometimes, I too need some motivation in keeping myself alive in a world that literally 9.9/10 times the bad guy wins.
I want to win. At something. At something big. If I help take down a man who's been responsible in destroying lives, governments and what-not, I'll feel good about myself and I shall motivate myself even harder to help the World.
I dunno, pretty deep shit being thrown here. You might sit down for a bit.
Again, it's all fun and games when everyone's having a ball, but when someone is trying to prove a point that's where I'll be necessary to punish you or anyone. I'm serious.
Hold on, let me put that shit in bold so you can understand my feelings. For they are not a-fake.

I still like you, no matter what. <3
I'd say the biggest thing protecting Mr. Kony is simply lack of interest...like every single other despot/atrocity that happens in Africa. While I would certainly hope this social movement may be the push that someone needs to actually capture the fellow, I remain skeptical yet optimistic.

All I can say about this "campaign" is this...
A week or so ago (or whenever, I dunno), the majority would have told you that they didn't have any idea who Joseph Kony was. Now, everybody and their mothers are talking about him. You know the saying, "the hatchling sings the loudest"?
Now, if you're going to try and tell me that at least spreading the word about this asshole is fruitless, I'd have to disagree. Knowing is half the battle, true, but the battle starts with knowing.
Maybe 4 out of 5 people will watch this video, learn about Kony, play some videogames, masturbate and go to sleep. Because at this point, that's all the video is good for; information.
And even if 1 out of 5 actually DO something about it, there are still that many people who've taken action. Opposed to a week or so ago (or whenever, I don't know), that's definitely a fucking difference.

The video had gone from roughly 44k views on Monday, to 11 Million+ Yesterday, it's definitely been getting attention and growing in speed. As previously mentioned, the main thing is bringing awareness to this guy throughout the whole world. And as someone else mentioned, it's not just another "Pro-America" war
Additionally, IC has a low two-star rating in accountability from Charity Navigator because they won’t let their financials be independently audited. That’s not a good thing. In fact, it’s a very bad thing, and should make you immediately pause and reflect on where the money you’re sending them is going.
By IC’s own admission, only 31% of all the funds they receive go toward actually helping anyone [pdf]. The rest go to line the pockets of the three people in charge of the organization, to pay for their travel expenses (over $1 million in the last year alone) and to fund their filmmaking business (also over a million) — which is quite an effective way to make more money, as clearly illustrated by the fact that so many can’t seem to stop forwarding their well-engineered emotional blackmail to everyone they’ve ever known.
The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government’s army and various other military forces. Here’s a photo of the founders of Invisible Children posing with weapons and personnel of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. Both the Ugandan army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting, but Invisible Children defends them, arguing that the Ugandan army is “better equipped than that of any of the other affected countries”, although Kony is no longer active in Uganda and hasn’t been since 2006 by their own admission. These books each refer to the rape and sexual assault that are perennial issues with the UPDF, the military group Invisible Children is defending.
The United States is already plenty involved in helping rout Kony and his band of psycho sycophants. Kony is on the run, having been pushed out of Uganda, and it’s likely he will soon be caught, if he isn’t already dead. But killing Kony won’t fix anything, just as killing Osama bin Laden didn’t end terrorism. The LRA might collapse, but, as Foreign Affairs points out, it is “a relatively small player in all of this — as much a symptom as a cause of the endemic violence.”
Sending money to a nonprofit that wants to muck things up by dousing the flames with fuel is not helping. Want to help? Really want to help? Send your money to nonprofits that are putting more than 31% toward rebuilding the region’s medical and educational infrastructure, so that former child soldiers have something worth coming home to.
Here are just a few of those charities. They all have a sparkling four-star rating from Charity Navigator, and, more importantly, no interest in airdropping American troops armed to the teeth into the middle of a multi-nation tribal war to help one madman catch another.
The bottom line is, research your causes thoroughly. Don’t just forward a random video to a stranger because a mass murderer makes a five-year-old “sad.” Learn a little bit about the complexities of the region’s ongoing strife before advocating for direct military intervention.
There is no black and white in the world. And going about solving important problems like there is just serves to make all those equally troubling shades of gray invisible.

I wish, but it did take a lot of time to compile. And "Raising Awareness" is a great thing, but, don't send ICI any money, there are other, better charities.

I think we have to clear something out : I don't donate money. I once donated money, circa two weeks ago in the value of 40 dollars, because of my goddamn cousin works in a institution that takes care of rape victims.
Which by the way, I toured the place and I could see some real progress being made, etc etc.
This whole Kony 2012 is a nice movement and all and we should all just embrace it what it is, a awareness movement.
The problem is, here we go, the over-the-top-holier-then-thou type of people that seep from the internet are starting to make the movement seem stupid. I like the word seep shut up, basically backfiring something that is rather necessary for a movement like this : Actual interest.
Jim Sterling who works for Destructoid tweeted about it and it's a rather nice tweet : - Watching a thirty minute video does not make you an activist. Aggressively pointing that out does not make you edgy and original, either.
Alright, maybe I'm becoming the faux-activist, aggressive edgy hipster kinda of guy, but I ACTUALLY want to put posters up and you know meet people who actually for two days or weeks or so give a damn about other people.
In other words : Kony 2012's action kit, costs 30 bucks and I ain't giving them shit. Maybe volunteering for the Medecins Sans Frontieres will perk up my CV and I'll get to visit Africa.

I will honestly say, this is probably the first real constructive thread that I've been in on the topic. The biggest thing that confuses me is that there are people out there stating that this whole thing is fake, that Kony doesn't exist and it's all pointless propaganda to bring in money. How can you say that a person doesn't exist without actually researching in to this? The guy is definitely a real person, he's not some made up Boogeyman meant to scare your kids, although with the accusations on Kony, he could serve that purpose as well >.> I'm thinking something along the lines of "Alright kids, behave or the Konyman will come get you in your sleep!"
