New Light on the Harry Potter fandom
« Thread Started on Oct 20, 2007, 1:51am »

This actually suprised me when I was told this by a friend on DeviantArt.

Professor Albus Dumbledore is infact gay.

Don't believe me? Here's the proof.

I find that it's actually a bit not suprising. But it gives the religious community something to talk about...

[I kinda thought that this belonged here, but if someone thinks it should be moved, I won't argue.]

I think it's lame as. I've never read/watched Harry Potter but I think it's a lame thing to do. You don't make people in fantasies gay. You only do that in comedy/drama movies/books. That's like making James Bond or Darth Vader gay. And despite my nonfondness for Harry Potter I hate J.K.Retard for doing that.

My friend said that it has ruined the magic of it all for her. For shame, author.

I've never read/watched them either, so I'm not too concerned either way.

I'm just incredibly annoyed that she announced it AFTER her last book. It's such a cop out! Sure, wait until the book sells millions of copies and you've made all your money before you say something like that. I know quite a few people were horrified (One of my friends actually called me up and told me about it just this morning. I laughed), not even counting the Christian no-tolerance fans. I'm sure many of the parents wouldn't have approved if they'd known that Dumbledore was gay.

That was just wrong of her :<! Not for making the character gay, but telling everyone after the series ended. Just thought I'd reiterate that point before I get flamed to death.

As do I (hence my laughing at being told by my friend xD)

But, I'm still quite annoyed with the author for pulling something like this.

If I was Rowling I'd totally say that Hermione was a hermaphrodite.

Anyway, her book, her characters, she can do whatever the hell she wants with them, but I find quite alright that dumbledore is gay.

Well she didn't INTENTIONALLY out Dumbledore after the books. It had always been implied. We just never actually...paid any attention to it.

The reason why she outed him was because, in the next movie, they were going to imply that Dumbledore fell in love with a woman. She immediately corrected them on that fact. THEN Dumbledore's gayness spread.

Still, you're never to old to pretend you're not gay.

I found it surreal. For some reason, I'd always assumed that Dumbledore was asexual.

Well, you know, Hagrid is any-sexual. As long as it moves and has a hole in it, he's game.

XD

But yeah. I always thought he was gay -__- I mean they never mentioned him liking a girl and in the last book everything people said about that one guy [his rival] it was kind of implied. Then there was a line that Hermione mentioned:

"But he LOVED you, Harry!"

Course, that can be read as a teacher to a student feeling, but the way that the "loved" was emphasized, it can be read differently.

I actually thought it was in a family-type way...

But wow. O.o Didn't see that coming... not that I really care or anything.

You silly. The filmmakers stopped trying to accurately translate the source material the films are based on since the pre-production process of the first movie. They'll try their best to make him as heterosexual as possible.

I'm pretty indifferent about Dumbledore being outed. I don't think it'll have any impact on my impression of the series at all.
