Make it easier on all of us and follow these guidelines when posting requests for voice actors. Please include the following information:
-Name of movie and brief summary of what it's about -Describe the characters you need voices for. Gender, age, voice type, accent, etc. -Audition line(s) for your actors to say in the character's voice* -Your e-mail address or other contact method (This is important. If you leave no email address in your post or profile, interested VAs will have a hard time contacting you.) -When is the deadline for sending in auditions? (Required! Read this thread for clarification on deadlines.)
*Remember to include audition lines and character descriptions---do NOT just make a post saying "Hey I need voice actors contact me on msn if your interested, bye." People will generally not want to help you if they have to add you on MSN just to find out what you need. This is an entire message board of voice actors..chances are we're interested.
Now, the following isn't mandatory, but please remember that the majority of our voice actors have work schedules and other real-life commitments which means they are unable to be online as often as they'd like. We highly suggest that you allow at least a day or two for people to send you auditions rather than using a first-come, first-serve method in order to guarantee the best quality results in your project.
Be sure to come back here every so often and check your thread in case people have posted any questions or concerns.

Rules For Posting Auditions
1. Edit your ORIGINAL POST when adding new characters or making updates on the casting status. Most people auditioning for a production read the first post of the thread and nothing else. Unlike Newgrounds, this board has an "edit post" feature, so you may edit your first post as often as you need.
2. You must state CLOSED or CAST somewhere in your original post once roles have been filled. This really helps to keep people from wasting their time auditioning only to find out a given part is already taken. Julie has also suggested that upcoming deadlines be listed in the subject line; for instance:
[Sonic Flash] Need Tails & Knuckles - 2 Days Left DBZ Parody Flash (CLOSED/CAST LIST UP)
Projects in which all auditions have ended but a "parts filled" notice is not present anywhere may be locked by a moderator. You are welcome to start a new thread if your project requires additional actors later on.
3. If you're not getting voice actors, be patient. Not everyone checks the forums 24 hours a day. You may "bump" your thread a maximum of once per day. Do not make a new post in your thread every two minutes asking why no one is auditioning for you.
4. Please be polite and professional when dealing with your voice actors. Read the "Producers' Guide to VA Etiquette" if need be.
5. Please check your post for spelling and grammar. Netspeak, indecipherable words, and poor use of capitalization/punctuation in your script make you look inexperienced or unprofessional, and hurt your chances of getting auditions. (The exception: If English is not your first language, please state so in your thread.) Think about it: Which of these audition lines look more like something you'd like to participate in?
"he sez he ad a msg 4 u from gandorf so plz go 2 tha temple now!!!!!!!!!!!" or "He says he has a message for you from Ganondorf, so please go to the temple now!"
6. Do not use your thread to send out the scripts and reference videos, tell your cast you need lines, etc. Get people's contact information when they audition and keep it on hand for future reference. Most people do not bother to check an audition thread after parts have been closed, so from there on you will need to communicate with your voice actors via email.
7. Because every voice actor has different "comfort zones", it is advisable to make a note somewhere in your post if your project will contain excessive swearing, hentai, or content which is generally considered offensive. This is more of a courtesy than an actual rule, as it saves embarrassment on both ends if you end up choosing actors who are uncomfortable with certain dialogue.
8. Auditions for adult content ("H games", adult dating sims, etc) ARE allowed, however; - Images in the audition thread must be censored to be reasonably "work safe". - There must be a clear notice indicating the nature of the project and dialogue. - Actors must be 18 or older to audition for such material. It is the producer's responsibility to ensure that actors cast for the role are of the legal age. - The VAC will not be held responsible for any complications arising from your use of this board to solicit actors for a project of this nature.
9. If you are already planning to cast any roles to yourself or your friends ("self-casting/pre-casting"), that's fine, but it's better to note that beforehand rather than opening them up to everyone for audition.
10. Please keep audition threads related to the project and the audition process. Off-topic conversations and useless chatter clutters the thread and unfairly pushes other projects further down the page.
Repeated disregard of the rules in this topic, especially after being asked to do so by an admin or moderator, will result in your topic being locked. Continually making the same topic after being locked without making any changes may result in a suspension or ban.
Feel free to post here if you need clarification on any of the rules/guidelines mentioned in this topic.

Since so many people have been having trouble following these guidelines, here is a template. You don't have to use it, but at least follow the rules in the above post.
{name of project here}
{Background information. You can briefly explain the plot, your experience as a producer or animator, etc.}
{Name of Character #1} {A picture of the character here. Not required, but would be helpful.} Voice Type: {Is the character male or female? How old? Does s/he speak with any type of accents? Is the voice pitched high, low or medium? Don't expect to get good results if you don't specify.} Audition Lines: 1. {audition line} 2. {audition line}
(Repeat this for all characters in the production.)
Recording & Sending Information {Do the files need to be in any specific format, ex: MP3, WAV..?} Send your auditions to {insert your e-mail address here}
Deadline {Please include a deadline for sending in auditions so that voice actors can prioritize.}

Can I be cheaky and ask you to add that people should put what accent they should have... I'm just getting sick of saying... "Hi is accent important or should I pretend to be a yank?" over and over and over again. Or when people say, "they have no accent" which means NOTHING!
The VAC's most British, sarcastic and cynical member.
A bit like Hugh Laurie in House, but my American accent is half decent.

It's not really the producers fault. They just forget that other people have different accents than them. Unless the characters have really obvious accents, it's easy to forget. What I think should be on here is voice sample as an optional. Like with anime dubs or anything, if they have a voice clip, they should use it. I have an endless bound of links, but it's still something.

I know and I do sympathise, I know this board is mostly populated by folks from the Americas, I'd just like to do some stuff in my own voice now and then.

I modified this line, hope it helps some:
Quote:
-Describe the characters you need voices for. Gender, age, voice type, accent, etc.
Then again, it seems that many people don't bother to read this anyway despite making it a global announcement
Another suggestion is to include a couple of different takes when trying out for your character, one in an American accent and one in your natural accent, and see which they prefer. Sometimes producers honestly don't know what they want, and they realize that a certain accent adds a whole new dimension to the character that they never thought of before.

Well, I'm not that good, and considering that sometimes, we have no ideas for an accent, that tends to make things difficult. This is something that some actors and actresses should remember, as finding the accent ideal for the character as just a scriptwriter makes things a lot more challenging, and it restricts the adaptability of the script to the actors, which may be needed if certain actors or actresses have a minor problem with the script.
Just thought I'd bring this to the attention of as many people who actually read this aside from me as I could.

It's not really up for a debate. The accents part is more of a guideline/example on one of the rules. Locking this thread so someone doesn't bump it again. Like Yamino said back in July of '06.
Repeated disregard of the rules in this topic, especially after being asked to do so by an admin or moderator, will result in your topic being locked. Continually making the same topic after being locked without making any changes may result in a suspension or ban.
First off, yes, there have been a few bans in the past due to uncooperative producers who actively resisted mods after being told to shape up their audition threads. Actively as in causing a LOT of thread drama along the way, calling both talent and mods unnecessarily rude names and whatnot (among other disrespectful things I'm sure you can imagine since we've had several rude producers who "left this site for good").
However, here's the thing: Everyone should know that these guidelines were made to help both producers and auditioning talent: Producers get a big enough talent pool to choose from as long as they keep their opportunity open, VA's get a better chance at earning a role as long as producers follow deadlines, and as long as these guidelines are followed (along with forum guidelines regarding conduct a la "NO DRAMA" rule), everyone is happy and we get smooth sailing.
The point I'm making is there may be times where the auditioning talent encourages bad auditioning habits, either because they're unaware of the guidelines producers need to follow or because they want to take advantage of every opportunity they can get to get ahead of the other auditioning talent (rudely put: breaking rules is the only way they can get cast; they're desperate).
We can't yank roles, but repeated offenses from the VA's can create situations where the producers may eventually get banned and these rules were made to benefit both the talent and the producers.
What are your thoughts on this and how should this be handled?
