[FreezingMoon.org] Organization making free games « Thread Started on Sept 8, 2009, 7:50pm »
Hello, I'm Vali, founder of Freezing Moon organization. We're a small team developing free open source cross platform video games. Our official website is http://www.FreezingMoon.org
I'm looking for a male "VJ", someone who sounds manly enough, around 30, more or less, in order to make comments for one or two of our game projects (Dark Shift and Ancient Beast perhaps, you can find out more about them in our projects section on the website).
The comments should be more or less in similar style to the ones from UT (Unreal Tournament), MK (Mortal Kombat), Dota (Defense of the Ancients, the most popular 3rd party Warcraft 3 custom map) and HoN (Heroes of Newerth, a game similar to Dota, this would be the best example, but it's closed beta, http://heroesofnewerth.com/ - none the less, I might be able to send a private invitation). More game examples: C&C Tiberian Sun Firestorm, Quake 3 Arena, QuakeLive.com, Open Arena, Doom.
You should be available to work with us for a longer period of time if suitable; you'll get your name in the credits and possible even earn some pocket money.
If you're able to tweak your voice to make it more stylish or effective in an application like Audacity, that would be a plus
For a primary sample, I would like the names of the projects
"Ancieeent ... BEAST" (more like a shout, the "Ancient" part is a bit streched, then a small pause, then "Beast" quicker)
another one with Ancient Beast, but cursive this time
and one with Dark Shift, cursive but a bit more whispered
We don't really have a deadline, but we're aiming for an early alpha release for Dark Shift by the end of this year, so finding someone suitable and getting something done before the first release would be cool, so you can consider 10th October as a "deadline".
Semi-finalists will receive some further lines to proceed with in order to help us evaluate them better.
You can reach me at DreadKnight@FreezingMoon.org
Cheers!

Dude, what you've got sounds pretty cool and I'm all "aaaawwwwwww...!" 'cause I'm not male and I can't really sound like I'm manly or 30, but if you need female voices, you know who to look for~ I'm interested~
Now, as for deadline, it's moreso to say when you'll stop accepting audition samples instead of a release date... So it'll help folks prioritize and try out and so you don't get stuck with mediocre talent 'cause everyone's ASAP is different. That said, if you can come up with a specific date for when you'll want a collection of samples in to choose from, name it and I'll guarantee you that everyone and their mom (okay, maybe dad in this case) will try out.
O_O; I SWEAR BY IT. <--- WILL chuck this link at her "talent pool"

Ok, thanks Hnilmik. I will set a deadline for the sake of having one
We could use some female voices as well sooner or later, since three of the Dark Shift playable characters will be that gender (you can see the info about characters in the game design document, linked in the projects page), as well some of the 'creatures' for Ancient Beast. I wanted to leave that stuff for later on, but it's always better to at least consider things somewhat earlier I guess.
Feel free to send me a sample or two; we can get in touch via some IM network if you want.
Some of the devs and community are hanging in our IRC channel (#FreezingMoon on Freenode server); if you're not familiar with IRC you can join from here or learn how to set up XChat: http://www.FreezingMoon.org/chat
Feel free to drop by anytime.

Awesome saaaaaauuucccee~<3 ::huggles::
And you're free to bump your thread once a day and even extend the deadline if you don't find a voice you want by then too~ Believe me, this can use the exposure~♪

@blackjackAV fun sample, not quite what I expected, I'll let you know if I'll consider it suitable for some specific character/creature a bit a bit later on. You sound sort of like a chinese kung-fu master, thanks for trying
@Hnilmik cool; I just noticed your signature and I'm looking into it [....] wow.... impressive! You're good at this kind of stuff, just keep in mind we'll try avoiding 'anime' for our projects.

Awww~ Thanks dude~
XD And no worries~ I can do anime, but I tend to work on more original projects and whatnot since I don't always sound like an anime character.

I believe it's meant to describe the manner of speech. Similar to cursive writing, cursive speech should flow naturally and not be subject to breaks. In this case, the words would flow as if they were practically a single word. Not multiple sentences, unlike what is being asked for in the first sample (the noted pause).
