Monster Boy Auditions 2 FINAL CAST LIST
« Thread Started on May 13, 2011, 5:54pm »

First off, thank you to everyone who came forward to audition. There were a lot of you! This set of auditions was certainly much more hectic than last time, so I must also thank you for being so patient with me. This wasn't an easy one to judge!

So, without further ado, here is the cast:

Emese: Cristina Vee
Miss Abbey: Natalie "DragonKnightTara" Van Sistine
Bully (Kevin): Lucien Dodge
Chad: Zack McComas
Anna: Jessi Nowack

Once again, I feel very humbled and privileged to have been approached by so many talented people, and to be working with them in the future. This is exciting!

TO ALL THOSE WHO AUDITIONED: this isn't quite the end! There will be lesser characters, background characters, that will speak on occasion - they may only have a line or two, but they will still require voice actors! If you would be interested in coming back to voice for these characters, please comment to let me know, and I will put your name down on the waiting list. I already have your auditions for other characters, so I will be able to select which one of you I think would suit the part, but if you feel the need to send me a demo reel, feel free.

Otherwise, that's it for now! Production on the second animatic shall start as soon as I get back from the

LONDON MCM COMIC EXPO!!

I'll be attending every day - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I can't wait!

Thanks again to all of you. Take it easy!
-----

Okay, that's it! Time's up! Judging begins now!
I'm hoping to have the results posted later on tonight, or tomorrow. Good luck to you all, and thank you so, so much for auditioning! This isn't going to be easy to judge!

Until next time. <3
--------

Hello again, guys.
To keep this short and sweet, here's the deal: I didn't receive as many applications for the characters of Emese and Miss Abbey as I would have liked, which is making them hard to judge, so I am leaving the auditions open for two more days for these characters only.

If you are interested in auditioning for the characters, but didn't have the time before, now's your chance!

New deadline is MONDAY 23RD MIDNIGHT GMT.
Same rules listed at the bottom of this thread still count.

BIG thanks to all those who came forward for the auditions, and for understanding this sudden re-opening. Judging will begin asap after this new deadline.

--------

Heeey, everyone. As promised, I'm back again (much earlier than expected) and looking for extra voice talent for my animation project Monster Boy.

To those unfamiliar with the project, the first thread I posted can be seen here, and the finished animatic can be seen here.
Aaand a full plot synopsis is here.

I have been given full permission to continue this project for my final year at University, with the aims of creating enough material by this time next year to pitch it as an animated series. By that time, I hope to have at least four animatics done (including the one already complete), as well as many smaller animation tests. This is where you guys come in.

One main and four supporting roles still need to be filled. So, without further ado, here they are:

American accents for ALL CHARACTERS, please.

Emese
Pronounced "Em-ease." Reference image.
Viola's monster. Very protective and motherly. Wise and quiet. Full description given on her character sheet (second one down).
Voice: medium pitch; soft and gentle for the most part, but can sound commanding and stern. Doesn't say much, but when she does, her words are worth listening to. She can become angry, but she never yells.

[Encouraged by Viola to introduce herself to Boy, she finally emerges. Shy. Has a tendency to be too formal in moments such as these.]
"H-hello. It's a pleasure to meet you, friend of Miss Viola."

[Speaking to Boy as Viola sleeps, solemn.]
"Miss Viola is very good at keeping up appearances. Her mother taught her well. Besides her father, you and I are the only ones who have seen her get upset about her mother's absence. I can understand why you would be wary of me. I am, after all, a monster. But I hope you will believe me when I tell you that seeing Miss Viola cry pains me just as much as it pains you."

[Angered by Nexus, she speaks with a fierce tone. She's giving him a final warning.]
"I don't know what it is you're up to, but you will leave these children alone. If you dare try anything, I won't let you get away with it."

Miss Abbey
Pronounced as "Abbie", spelt as "Westminster Abbey." Same pronounciation, different spelling.
Reference image.
Boy and Viola's homeroom teacher and Chris' art teacher, she's the "onlooker" character, the one who knows that something odd is going on, but can't quite gauge what due to her inability to see monsters. Amongs the teachers, she is the voice of reason; to her students, she is kindly and approachable, but commanding when needed. Takes it upon herself to help others and sort out their problems.
Very knowledgeable on her subject, her work is a constant source of inspiration to Chris. She's constantly at loggerheads with his parents, desperately trying to convince them that Chris' chosen career path is a viable one, and he has a lot potential to make a name for himself.
Voice: medium pitch. Well-spoken, a voice that can easily garner attention. Authoritative when necessary, soft and encouraging when needed.

[Interrupting a heated discussion between Chris and the bullies, before a fight could break out.]
"Okay, that's enough, break it up! Chris, what have I told you about talking to these guys? And don't even get me started on you, Kevin! Do I have to call your parents again?"

[Talking to Chris' parents, losing her patience a little. Doesn't snap, but does raise her voice a little, irritated.]
"I don't see what the problem is here! Chris has gotten straight A's in art since he came to this school. I know his other grades are cause for concern, but Chris doesn't want to be a mathematician! Your son has a God-given talent - I don't understand why you won't let him use it."

[During a conversation with Chris, at length, she tries to level with him. Concerned.]
"Chris, come on. You've been acting off for the past month. It's great that you're standing up for your friends, but it's not like you to pick fights. There's obviously something wrong. What aren't you telling me?"

The Bullies.
Reference image for all three.

Bully (Kevin)
Usually referred to by the kids as "the Bully" by title, Kevin and his gang have built a reputation for themselves as the school's biggest bully problem. All of them have been suspended at least once, and are failing at least two classes; it seems that these two factors are the rites of passage of becoming part of the group.
Kevin is the stocky, cumbersome, ugly, frightening leader of the group. What he lacks between the ears, he makes up for with his giant fists. At first glance, he is your typical, dumbass school bully, but the fact that he seems to have a monster of his own hints at something deeper.
Voice: deep, condescending, uncouth, rude. Rather dumb, but not to the extent of, say, Ed from Ed, Edd n' Eddy.

[Has intercepted the boy just as he was about to go home. He and his gang are picking on him. Condescending, teasing.]
Aww, the poor kid's all alone! Well, maybe we could hang out with you for a while. And, of course, by "hang out", I mean, "beat the snot out of you and take your lunch money."

[In retort to Chris standing up for the boy and Viola. Kevin and Chris have some history; they got into a rather vicious fight once before, and both of them were suspended for a week. Amused that Chris would make another attempt after having had his ass handed to him last time, he scoffs.]
"You again!? Didn't you learn your lesson well enough last time? Or do I gotta give you another black eye before you start gettin' it?"

Chad
Kevin's right-hand man, he has a few more brain cells to rub together, but is still a few nails short of a toolbox. More of a trickster than anything, he doesn't immediately leap to physical threats, but will happily help with stuffing the boy into a locker, or getting into fights with other kids.
Voice: medium pitch, nasally, sniffs a lot, and tends to snort when laughing. Annoying laugh. Condescending, but a little more intelligent than Kevin.

[Backing up Kevin as he mocks Chris for having lost their previous fight so badly.]
"Oh man, just go ahead and do it. This stupid failure needs to learn to back off!"

[Same scene, laughing. Slip a snort in here somewhere.]
"Haha, hey, Chris, remember when we were fighting, and I tripped you up, and you went flying head first into the water fountain? Hahaha, oh man, that was hilarious!"

[The bullies have managed to catch the boy alone, and have cornered him. However, the boy has just had his first glimpse of Kevin's monster, and is reacting in a very peculiar manner. Confused, Chad turns his nose up.]
"What the heck's the matter with this kid!? Hey, say somethin', loser!" [No response.] "God, you're such a weirdo!"

Anna
Anna leaves the physical violence to the boys, preferring to tease kids with words and sly rumours. She's also Chad's girlfriend, and they're often seen holding hands or having lovers' quarells. Definitely the most intelligent member of the group. She's particularly scathing of Viola's appearance, and came up with the nickname "Cyclops."
Voice: medium-high pitch, loud, bitchy. Has a high-pitched, annoying giggle, like nails on a blackboard.

[Backing up Chad after teasing Chris, leans on his shoulder.]
"You'd think he would've got the idea after getting suspended for a week. So, Chris, how are your grades looking these days? Getting any better, or do you think we'll graduate before you do?"

[Picking on Viola, making fun of her appearance. Very bitchy.]
"Aww, what's the matter, Cyclops? You gonna cry? Go ahead - I've always wondered if you cried from both or eyes or just one, ahaha!"

Auditions are open until May 20th.
MP3 format is preferred.
Try out for as many characters as you like.
Improv is awesome.
This is going to be a lengthy project, so I would appreciate it if the VA would be prepared to keep their role until this time next year, at most.
Email them to me straight, or use Sendspace or the like. If you have me added on Skype, a file transfer is fine.
Email is paranotwinblade@hotmail.com

Any questions? Anything that I've missed? Let me know~

Thank you ever so much for your continuing support of this project, and I greatly look forward to hearing from you guys! C:

hi!
Any preference in accents for the voices you'll be casting since the voices so far for the human characters sound more american? Will give it a go sometime!

Maybe, I'll take a hit on one of your characters then. Like maybe... This upcoming week before Friday?
