Depending what your budget is, a Samson C01U is a good one to get started with.

I meant you can actually read through the thread for ideas and suggestions. Look, then ask.

I never really got around to posting the next parts on account of all the irrelevant "WHAT MIC SHOULD I USE" posts. Part II will probably be a separate thread for cleanliness' sake.

I'm in need of advice.

I have the samson c01u, although I do actually have a RODE but haven;t been able to find a decent phantom power for it as of yet, but want to concentrate on using the samson.

Although I have a pop filter, its still picking up my computer's fan...I wonder if there was some way to maybe play around with mic, or audacity, or even construct something for the mic to just focus on my voice, than just the area around me.

Still learning ^_^'

I have a microphone built into my computer, but it picks up my computer fan and it isn't that good at blocking background noise.

I got a logitech mic for 10 bucks that claimed to cancel out background noise, but it doesn't do it too well.

Now, I'm thinking about taking it back and getting a Samson C0/1U.
I'm going to use it for mostly music, and Voice Acting.

Anyone have any better ideas, some objections, or do you guys think it's a good idea?

P.S. If there is something similar that I can get cheaper, please tell me :}
Thanks

I figure since more people are getting condenser mics these days, maybe a few tips on how to care for them might come in handy. Since I can't start a thread in this section, I figured this was the most appropriate one to add to :)

I grabbed these tips from the web and a lot of it is just common sense, but I'm sure not everyone realizes how fragile their condenser can be.

  • Condenser microphones are relatively durable, but a few mistakes can break or damage a condenser.

  • Never overload the condenser with extremely loud sound or feedback for long periods of time. Recording extremely loud sounds at a high volume will lead to extreme clipping and garbled noise, and potentially hurt your microphone.

  • Never unplug your condenser from your pre-amp or powered audio recording device without turning off phantom power or making sure the device is off. Unplugging a condenser microphone with phantom power on is a common way of damaging a condenser. Never unplug the microphone without turning off the phantom power.

  • Put your microphone away if you aren't going to use it for a long period of time. Or at least cover it with a sock with a silica gel packet it in it.

  • Put your microphone away in dusty, wet, or unusual conditions. For example, during a construction project in the room you record in.

  • Don't drop a condenser microphone, expose it to hard impacts, or handle it with the same carelessness as a dynamic microphone. You could hammer nails with most dynamic microphones, but condensers are fragile in comparison.

This topic and the links provided have been extremely helpful.
I am wondering if anyone else has to record through or use a laptop for their recordings?
