What channel is the HUB network? It seems like the only network that knows what it's doing.

@Minty and bananabuddy: Thanks. Still touch and go, but am hoping for the best.

You ever had one of those nights where you just fall asleep early due to exhaustion, knowing you're not gonna wake up till morning, then somebody wakes you up in the middle of the night for something important, then after finishing said activity, not be able to sleep again for hours on end? Yeah, those are really annoying.

That's worth a conversation.

If I was put into prison for 16 years for doing something extraordinarily selfish, I'd be sorry.

In any case, it's still a pretty sad story. The night before he kills his parents, he tunes a guitar, his dad shows him how to play some chords, mom comes in to listen... it was a nice moment. And he still decides to kill them the next day. I can't write a story as frustrating as that.

Yeah, but I feel like it'd be more along the lines of feeling sorry for his own situation. If he had not been caught and imprisoned, I doubt that he'd feel sorry about what he did. It's textbook sociopathic behavior. They only feel bad when they're caught. Check out Serial Killers by Peter Vronsky. Pretty in-depth profiling of different categories of killers.

You can't put yourself in his shoes because he simply doesn't think like the average human. You are capable of empathy. He was obsessed with killing people.

I don't think he was incapable of empathy. I think he was fucked up in some other way. This wasn't an act of random malice. He didn't lash out at schoolmates, or the neighborhood kids. He killed his parents. He knew them intimately, there were things about them that he hated. That's not something you decide on the fly, it's not a decision someone just makes. That shit runs deep. I had the same thoughts once or twice. Many 13 year old boys do. I guess I just wasn't stupid enough to dwell on it for more than a second.
I think he was capable of empathy, sure. I think his selfish anger just clouded it.

Call him a psychopath, if you want. Me, I'm gonna let the psychologists figure that out. If we were discussing some piece of shit, like that kid who kidnapped a toddler, beat him and left him on the rails, then yeah, I'd call him a "psychopath". This kid killed people he knew. I'm thinking that's a whole different problem altogether.
