 VA Listings: Useful or no?
« Thread Started on Jan 6, 2007, 8:40pm »

So I've noticed that the "VA Listings" section doesn't seem very relevant anymore...we required the profile on Newgrounds to keep people from joining and saying things like "I can do any voice you want so add me to MSN ok bye". But now that we have an organized forum, it seems like most people would just post an audition thread, and if they needed to scout, they'd just look in the demo section or notice people who post frequently around the board. I can't imagine they'd go to the VA Listings and look through all those profiles especially considering 1) over half the people probably aren't active anymore, 2) people tend to exaggerate when listing the voices they can do, and 3) most people don't remember to go in and update their listing so chances are the information in there is obsolete.

One option I can think of is to have a "Demo Reel Thread". This would be a thread maintained by moderators and would have a section for males and females. It would be a simple, quick reference that would link only to the person's demo reel (no boredom clips, just one demo reel). That way, whoever was interested could just look them up on the forums. The listings would look something like this:

MALES
rwynaries
Morked
pyromaster

FEMALES
Rina-chan
KitsuneSqueak
ZeeChan

(I only included a few people cause I'm lazy :P)

So what do you guys think? I really would like some opinions on this, becasue the current VA Listings thing seems to be getting obsolete.

It doesn't have to be a demo reel per say; just a basic sample of your voice. The reason I said no boredom clips is because it takes too long to wade through the demo section as it is, what with all the random "impersonation of x character" clips and monologues and multiple revisions of one's demo reel. So if we do go with this idea, basically people would have a chance to provide one link that they could use to show off what they can do with their voice in 1-2 minutes.

Oh, Yamino.

ps: I can't figure out whether to make this forum background lighter or darker...I changed it from pink to peach so it wouldn't look so feminine, but meh...

MAKE A DEMO INDEX! Most producers are lazy and wouldn't really wanna look through the listings to find one specific type of voice. And yes, more than half of the VA listing is made up of people who have abandoned the internets.

Agreed. Demo Index would have a lot more relevency than just listing the actors...some of them don't appear on here as often as others do, anyway...

So, how would we decide the order? I have a feeling that if we just do it alphabetically, people with "A" screen names will get all the scouting requests (cause some producers are lazy) and people like ZeeChan will be shoved to the bottom of the list, which doesn't seem fair. I was thinking perhaps we could order it by whoever submits first, like we did with the VA listings, and every now and then check for broken links because that's usually a sign that someone's inactive.

Sounds like it would work. Alphabetical order would be wierd and poor little Zee will get shoved to the bottom. </3

What I suggest is make a confirmation email that you send every 6 months or something. That way, active people will respond and inactives will obviously not, lol. Then...CLEAR THEM FROM THE LIST! MUAHAHA!

have you seen the Code index for proboards support forum, rina? they masde an index quite effectively, I suggest that. where there's a table of contents, and it links to others demo reels(via a demo profile that they post). OH! I have a good idea. we can mke voice categories (instead of first come first serve)and it'll be easier for producers cause of what they want the voices to sound like... just throwing ideas.

I started to look through the listings, but got tired of broken links and wading through the information to find a voice demo rather quickly.

I like the idea of just having a demo reel linked to their name. Much easier.
