 Gear Talk! +Wishlists
« Thread Started on Jan 31, 2011, 3:01pm »

Scott Stoked asked me in SYM and I thought I might as well make a new thread for this 'cause...well...I fucking love gear.

Cross-posted from SYM:

A nice pair of monitors, or a pair of wireless cans (no more tangles!), or a pedal tuner, or a loop pedal (Boss RC-20XL or the DigiTech JamMan), or an analog delay pedal (the digital delay pedal I sold a while ago just sounded shitty and well...digital), or some new tubes for my amp, or a new acoustic pickup, or another SM58, or the Les Paul Goldtop I've been eying for yeeeeaaaars, or some random accessories (keyboard covers, cables, stands, pick holders, rackmount case on wheels), or a ukulele for shits and giggles, or a CAD M9 (which would be my first tube mic oi oi!) or or or or MAAAAHHHHH DON'T MAKE ME CHOOOOSEE!!!!!! D':

Hmm...interesting though how my wishlist has decidedly become more focused on live performance than studio recording...

...STEVE HOLT!!!!

-------

So I'm curious. What's on your list?

@ shoester - Have you been on Gearslutz lately? There's been a bunch of chatter about the Stellar CM-6 tube mic . . . it's a little more than the CAD M9, but folks who have it say it easily compares to $800+ tube mics.

Hmmm, my wishlist . . . one of those fancy dual layered pop-filters and a SM7B. I've come close to buying that mic a few times now for recording punk stuff... I should just do it.

My wishlist was longer before Christmas, but I've picked up goodies since then ;)

Sadly, no. My shit barista job has led me to refrain from tempting myself too much by continuing to frequent Gearslutz. It just made me....sad. Sad that I'm po :(

I'll look into the CM-6. I wanted the M9 based on comparison recordings on an acoustic guitar. The M9 had the brightest, most acoustic-flattering recording of the lot.

Shoey, if your coffee job is getting you down, we can always open a Private Investigator business. Combine that with your musical talent, all we'd have to get is a talking animal, and we'd be set for life.

Not to mention you could self-advertise in such a kick-ass fashion!

The only thing I'm really needing/wanting is some good audio recording software. I've been running just audacity for a time, and I'd like to learn how to actually do shit.
Maybe a pop filter, but I've been managing fine without one even with the hard consonants.

I'd check out Reaper. It's excellent software for only $40.

Goldwave is also amazing for about the same amount.

In fact, Goldwave has better Noise Reduction ability than even Audition!

Posting my wishlist will just make me sad. You know, because I'll never actually get the stuff I want.

I want too much.

- Neumann U87 or TLM 103/102
- Mojave Audio Large Diaphragm Tube Condenser
- Sound Proof Studio

I would be complete I think. I like my current preamp... not sure if I would get a new USB audio interface though.

A GIRL CAN DREAM OKAY.

Oh shit, U87. It's almost too scary to wish for.

@Mekky: Only if the animal can be mythical. Like a griffin or something.

Yeah, I would lurrrv a genuine U87 as well. And a sound proof booth would be sweet too. Although I have upgraded my packing blanket vocal booth to an acoustic panel vocal booth (thanks to my dad's uber DIY skillz).

I don't have one of those.

But, I'm trying to adopt a Husky, and they be all "oow wwoo owoowooooo". So, that's kinda close to talking.

[Cross-post from FB]

Don't call an article a "Product Review" when you really should be calling it a Product OVERview. I don't need you to point and describe the product to to me; there are enough pictures to do that. I wanted your OPINION on the product. Said product is the new Mbox 3. OVERVIEWS are glowing based on its slick design, but people who actually took the time to REVIEW it are bombing it across the board (industry pros, not wannabe kids sitting in their parents' houses who pay for the brand rather than performance). Test clips I've listened to don't show any significant improvement from the Mbox 2 family (the preamps sucked so hard I almost cried when I first tried it).

Has anyone played with the Mbox 3 yet? Thoughts? The only reason I want to buy it is so I can use Pro Tools.

I already have an ART MPA Gold preamp, so I guess the onboard preamps aren't THAT important. But sometimes I'm lazy and/or spontaneous and favor on-the-fly recording without having to turn on all my equipment and wait for the tubes to warm up.

I can now cross dual-layered pop filter off my list. Better than my previous pop-filter, but maybe not as drastic a difference as I had hoped.
