Wow.... this thread will eventually push us to write the ''VAC Bible'' with laws and rules for a proper diet and etc...lawlz, well, lemme start off with I have a water machine at my studio, then you definitely need fresh fruit, lots of 'em and especially green apples as the clicky sound is really annoying and unprofessional. Also I have read that you need a hot cup of tea, preferably with special tea herbs and honey, expect updates soon ^__^

Individual people, individual approaches. I personally find that water makes my throat go all funny, unless I gargle with it instead of drinking, and I manage rather well on milk. Also, if dairy is bad for your vocal work, how come many people recommend ice cream for sore throats?

Weiss, think that's because dairy isn't good for the extreme highs and lows that VAs and singers have to do, it produces mucus. For sore throats it's great because it's cool and sooths the inflamed throat.

I am sorry my friend, but I must disagree with you as you have not pointed out any actual facts to back up your statements as I have putten facts out there, milk and etc. increases the clicky sounds, if you have a studio mic, you can test out yourself and observe the results and then base your final decisions according to the result. It's not induvidual people, it's science. Sometimes barely noticable, but is a fact.

You've got it backwards man. Water is really good to keep your voice lubricated. milk is awful, it creates bubbles in your throat and screws up everything vocally. I'll advise you to stop drinking milk before recording because that is an awful idea.

also ice cream is only a temporary soultion to sore throats... much like throat lozenges, it numbs the pain allowing you to think you're fine to work away, when in fact you're risking serious vocal damage that way...
I learned that one the hard way. It ain't easy being a heavy metal singer *sigh*

lol at Shard-Spider's last comment... well, water is the first drink that you should have in your studio (unless you're Rina-Chan, I think she has Red Bull instead of blood running in her, who knows?) Then you need fruit, tea and honey... meat and milk? Don't know about meat, but milk will definitely worsen the quality of your recordings, soar throat candys? Thay can actually help sometimes, I took some extra-minty ones with something in it that made unblocked my nose and my throat feel incredible and I got more confidence that way and grabbed an apple and back to work

That's exactly what I'm talking about, they have a local anaesthetic in them which numbs the pain, but doesn't actually soothe the pain like they advertise... giving you said "confidence" to work where in reality you are damaging you vocal folds further because it's accumulating on top of the injury you have already sustained... if you must take something, try and find Olbas Pastilles or Olbas oil. You can find them in pretty much every pharmacy over here in ireland, I use them only when I really need them... Opera singers swear by them. They also clear out your head much like eucalyptus does

No no, I mean... I tried out 2194 different soar throate sweets, but this one (forgot the name, dammit) actually had an effect, well, at least for some time

But red meats and dairy products aren't good to be in a singer/VA's diet.
After the reasoning behind "no dairy products" has been reiterated upon hundreds of times in several ways, I'm still pondering the reasoning behind "no red meats".

I shall find the effect red meat has on you (besides being hazardous to health, raw meat can be dangerous) but how does it affect our voices? Hmm... I shall find out in theory and then try out in practic, hopefully clear straight forward results can be made

Well for me I usualy drink water or green tea before I record and what I eat is anything becides dairy, chocolate and shugary things...it coats my throat with gunk and makes it impossable to voice act.
