Yu-Gi-Oh! fandub - Voice actors needed! « Thread Started on Jul 13, 2012, 3:15am »
I'm new to this site, so sorry to you guys if I screw this ad up...
The show is Yu-Gi-Oh!, series 1 (aka Season Zero), which only aired in Japan. I'm searching for voice actors to help me create this fandub series, and maybe even make a fandubbing team
The concept for those of you who have not watched Yu-Gi-Oh! before:
A 16-year old boy named Yuugi Mutou (spelled as Yugi Muto in the English version of the second series) has been trying to solve an ancient Egyptian puzzle for 8 years. After some trouble with a couple of bullies, he ends up having a bodyguard against his wishes named Ushio (a one-off character, by the way).
Ushio attacks the bullies Jonouchi (Joey Wheeler in the English anime) and Honda (Tristan Taylor) and charges Yugi 20,000 yen or so for his services. That night, he meets Ushio at the school, and is attacked by Ushio. The bullies from earlier come to help him, with Jonouchi giving Yugi the piece of the puzzle he threw out of the window earlier. They are beaten, however; but Yugi manages to put the final piece into the Milennium Puzzle, completing it.
At that moment, he is possessed by a vengeful, dark spirit that resides in the puzzle, and challenges Ushio to a Yami no Game (roughly "Game of darkness"; referred to as a Shadow Game in the English version of the second anime). When Ushio tries to cheat, the possessed Yugi creates a dark illusion that makes Ushio believe he is being attacked by a giant man-eating worm, so as to say that he is being consumed by his own greed.
Afterwards, Yugi returns to normal with no idea whatsoever as to what had just transpired. From there on in, whenever Yugi or his friends (Katsuya Jonouchi, Hiroto Honda, Anzu Masaki/Tea Gardner in the English anime, and Miho Nosaka) are given trouble and hurt in any way, the dark spirit (Dark Yugi, aka Yami Yugi) takes over Yugi and deals punishment to those responsible through an elaborate Yami no Game.

Characters: I will post these lists in parts: this is the first part, the protagonists. For images, I will soon make a gallery of each character's picture.
Yugi Muto: See the first post for details. Also, Yugi is of quite short stature, and is a very big fan of games. He has also been trying to solve the Millennium Puzzle since he was eight years old.
In the first episode, he is shown to be very timid and self-contained. At the end of that episode, he befriends Miho Nosaka, Katsuya Jonouchi, Hiroto Honda and Anzu Masaki. Their English names are Melody*, Joey Wheeler, Tristan Taylor and Tea Gardner. *Did not appear in English anime; Miho appeared in Yu-Gi-Oh! Dungeon Dice Monsters as Melody.
Miho Nosaka: She is a cheerful and flirty girl who basically serves as the dumb blonde that is not a blonde, if you catch my drift. She often is shown flirting with Honda, who is also in love with her. She can be naive, stubborn and oblivious to others' feelings, sometimes to Honda's dismay, but overall, she cares very much for her friends' safety. Miho occasionally refers to herself in the third person. She is best friends with Anzu.
Katsuya Jonouchi: His father is an alcoholic, his parents are separated, and he has led a life in the past as a street thug, which was the time he met Honda, and started hanging out with him even though he wasn't in Jonouchi's gang. At the series' start, he is picking on Yugi because of the fact that Yugi won't defend himself due to being carefree and having a hatred of vengeance. After he, Honda and Yugi have their encounter with Ushio, they all become friends, with Honda and Jonouchi helping Yugi when he is in trouble.
He began his friendship with Yugi when he and Honda were being attacked by Ushio, during which Yugi was trying his best to get Ushio to stop his assault.
Jonouchi has a sister, Shizuka (Serenity Wheeler in the English anime), who lives with his mother due to his parents' separation. She is in a hospital during the time of this series due to illness; we'll get into that later. He and Honda are best friends, as are he and Yugi.
Hiroto Honda: Jonouchi's friend, and also initially a bully who messed with Yugi. After their ordeal with Ushio, he also befriended Yugi and Anzu (just like Jonouchi did). Honda tried the year before to become the class president, but failed to; instead he ended up as a junior custodian intent on keeping his school and other place clean and trash-free. He is also obsessed with his custodial duties and school rules. He is in love with Miho, and often lets this love get the better of him.
Anzu Masaki: A girl who has been friends with Yugi since childhodd. She is also best friends with Miho.
In ep. 1, she comes to Yugi's defense when Jonouchi and Honda are bullying him, and later tells him to stand up for himself.
Later, she is discovered to be working a side job to earn money to eventually go to America. As this is against school rules, Anzu warns Yugi and Jonouchi not to tell anyone else about this. (Humorously, Miho and rule-obsessed Honda are also working here).
Dark Yugi: Known as Yami Yugi in the English anime, this is the form Yugi takes when controlled by the puzzle's dark spirit. Dark Yugi is identical to Yugi, but his face is slightly different, his hair changes, noticably appearing sharper, and his voice deepens somewhat and becomes much more confident and serious. He is later revealed to be the ancient spirit of an Egyptian Pharaoh who ruled 3,000 years ago (5,000 years in the English anime).
Dark Yugi is able to create Yami no Games, which are games that require the loser to undergo a Penalty Game, such as illusions that scare or craze the person undergoing them. He is an unforgiving vigilante who takes over Yugi's body to take revenge on anyone who wrongs Yugi and his friends. Dark Yugi is also a game expert, perfectly understanding the rules of almost any game he plays, and is an expert at the Magic and Wizards card game as well (note: Magic and Wizards is better known as Duel Monsters).
Sugoroku Mutou: Known as Solomon Muto in the English anime, as Truesdale in some of the games, and often referred to as simply Grandpa by Yu-Gi-Oh! fans and characters alike. He is Yugi's grandpa and caretaker; Yugi's mother is rarely mentioned and his father is a travelling salesman who can't be home very much.

Audition lines for the Yugis « Reply #14 on Jul 14, 2012, 12:21am »
For little Yugi and Yami Yugi, here's some general lines to audition with. Send me a demo with these lines in your voice to see if you'll be able to help
Little Yugi (or simply Yugi): (in a cheerful voice) "I know! I'll complete the Millennium Puzzle today!"
(hurting and weak, just after having been beaten up by Ushio) "I wished.... o-on the puzzle... for real friends... that I could count on... that could count on me.... no matter what..."
(yelling) "I hate fighting and violence!"
(in a solemn, somewhat angry way) "Kaiba, I cannot forgive your methods!" (this is a movie line, just so you know)
(panicking, yelling for help) "Help me! I'm drowning!" (from that episode with the water park and the bombings)
(questioning) "You're not going to say Honda is dating others for pay too, are you, Jonouchi?"
(yelling) "ANZU!!" (one of the major yells he does in the show, so that's why this is listed)
And I guess that's it for Yugi's lines. Now then:
DARK YUGI
(solemnly, like a speech) "The Yami Game reveals the true nature of a person's character... Now, you shall be consumed by your own greed."
"Game start." (his catchphrase, more or less)
(in a very explaining manner) "This game of Magic and Wizards will be different from any other."
"Exodia... OBLITERATE!"
"Exodia.... Attack with Hell-fire's Rage!"
(skeptical) "The so-called Magic and Wizards master ended the game in a draw. How expected..."
(evilly) "No use? Let's see about that!"
"Kaiba, you wonder why the Blue-Eyes wouldn't attack me? I can see why: your heart isn't in that card. Its loyalty is to Grandpa, and so in conflicting loyalty, its only choice was to destroy itself!"
"You're pathetic!"
"Penalty game!"
"Mind crush!"
"Now you go through a Penalty Game! Suffer... THE EXPERIENCE OF DEATH!"
"The door of darkness has opened."
