Well, I STILL notice people not putting up deadlines now and again, and I just had to tell that to someone new to VAC rather recently. Jeez, don't people read instructions anymore? :P

What i did in my project, is put up that the auditions can go on as long as they need to until i get the perfect voice. A deadline is then posted for an individual character as soon as i get the voice that I want. The time is anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks depending on the importance of the character. is this acceptable?

Deadlines for specific characters is fine. It's been done before, like main characters being separated from the rest of the cast according to importance, for instance and as you describe.

I don't quite understand what you mean by as-soon-as-I-get-the-voice-I-want, though. Which makes me instinctively say no to auditions-going-on-as-long-as-...-until-I-get-the-perfect-voice. Have a specific deadline and extend as necessary. Too many assume that no deadline is the best way to go, but it doesn't get people to try out as much as a deadline.

It being a FAQ makes it easier to link to the thread instead of having to write up a reason why, every. time. a. single. user. doesn't. put. up. a. deadline.

Is it acceptable to say "deadline will be after I receive __ more auditions. Better hurry!" ?

Example, I'm waiting to cast my final role for ToS fandub until I get two more separate auditions. Is that OK? I believe that it will encourage people to hurry up and audition even though so far it's a no go... lol
