What's up guys! I'm ashamed to say it but I'm a complete amateur at voice acting.

I have a friend, (Known on this site as "RaccoonSwordsmen") who's been into it for a while, but I always thought I was going to end up doing something in art, like being a concept artist. However I soon realized that all I would ever draw was cartoons, and anime. And I quickly came to the conclusion that someone who lives in the US like me, wouldn't get far drawing anime for western companies.

I always enjoyed voice acting, and acting in general, and while it was never my prime focus, I always loved to hear voice actors at work in the shows I watch, and particularly, the games I play, since I'm such a massive nerd. I've always held a pretty secondary interest in it. And seeing how successful people like Yuri Lowenthal, and Troy Baker have been in the business, it seemed like an apt idea to give it a go. After all, it seems like great fun, and I'd imagine I could act okay if given the chance.

Anyway, you all seem like some pretty nice people, and I hope to get along with you all. If you have any tips or advice for a budding VA like myself, and my friend (Who should be posting shortly) please let us know everything we can do to get started on it, because we're both enthusiastic about this.

I should also mention that we're for hire, so if anyone wants to hear us, and let us try out, we'd appreciate the opportunity.

Thanks everyone!

You know, I don't like sauce, but luckily for you I make an exception for noobsauce. ;D Welcome to the VAC ZR, and to you as well Raccoonswordsmen!

First up, absolutely never ever be ashamed to admit that you're a complete amateur. There is nobody here that has not once been there. The best part is the only way out is up! I wish you the best for making a start in your voice acting career and I hope you enjoy the process of building your skills.

Now I'm one of the worst people to ask for solidly technical voice acting advice, so I'll point you in the general direction of the Guides, Tips & Advice section. It is, as it says on the tin, a board full of guides written by other members. It may not be specifically personalised advice, but the guides are written by our more experienced and highly knowledgeable members and directed towards target groups of which you may just be a part (complete beginner, or someone having trouble with a certain aspect of VAing).

So have a browse through those, depending on what applies to you, and if you have any further questions or want to see what others have asked, you may also want to have a look around the Voice Acting Discussion section. Of course, feel free to ask me anything, but don't be surprised if I don't know an answer and have to redirect you again. ;D

As for soliciting work, as I understand it people are generally more likely to request a try-out from you if they think that you might be suitable for a particular role, which means having an idea of how you sound whether that be from having heard a demo, or sample clips, or even past auditions. Let me stress though, do not rush in getting a demo put together -- that is something that I believe should be a showcase of your experience as much as just a number of voices, and some people put it off for years. You can always make sample recordings or "practice reels" or just fun clips where you're messing around, and of course, audition audition audition! It's good practice, and landing more roles is the best way to get your voice out there especially when you're starting out.

Thank you so much for all the useful advice! We're really excited to be a part of the community, and we hope to really get involved with the people here and soak up as much knowledge and experience as we can, and of course, make friends!

This is really daunting for us, so we're sure to have lots of questions, but we do want to get started as soon as we can. so thanks so much for the support. It really helps! :3
