Hello everyone. I'm Nolan, otherwise known as BWO Sandman!
I'm currently a College Sophomore and I'm majoring in Film at the University of Tampa. But I'm not just interested in Filmmaking and movies, but also acting, cartoons, animation, and even a bit of music as well. To be 100% honest, I don't know where I would fit, but I at least narrowed it down to being a part of some form of media. I'm also a huge gamer. I have a Wii, Xbox 360, and a few games on Steam. I am a huge Halo and Metal Gear Solid nerd, among other things. I also like a little bit of anime, mostly Fullmetal Alchemist and Trigun.
I discovered a few months ago that I have more than just a little interest in voice acting but I don't know if it's right for me yet. People keep saying that I have a unique voice and that I should be on the radio because my voice is deep (although it sounds normal to me). I enjoy doing silly impressions and my own narrations and voices when I'm with my friends. I decided to give Voice Acting a shot when I found out that there were open auditions for the "Newsponies" project on Equestria Daily (Yes, I'm a brony, deal with it). I recorded several takes for 6 of the male roles for the audition, although I'm not sure how it went yet. I also recorded myself acting out and narrating a couple poems for one of my professors when he found out I was using the sound booths in the music department to "practice" voice acting. (Practice in quotations because I really don't have a clue on what I'm doing, which is why I'm here.)
I have a good USB microphone (Blue Yeti pro) and I mostly use Garageband with it so I think I'm already set on the technological side of things. As for my voice range, I don't really know what I can do. So far I only attempted impressions of characters from Team Fortress 2 (The Sniper, Soldier, and Scout I think I can do well), some characters from the Harry Partridge Cartoons (like those in "The Justin Bieber Show"), and my own male versions of the characters from MLP (as in trying a really soft spoken voice for Fluttershy, and at least attempting a southern accent for Applejack). I really don't think I'm ready for any demo reels or having my own website yet. I at least have a youtube channel going by the same name, but that's more for other things.
I'm here to learn as much as I can and see if I can refine my voice enough to be able to make something cool out of it. I'm glad I found this place!

Welcome to the VAC, Nolan!
That's a nice list of complementary interests you have going there. I hope you're able to figure out over time just where you'd like to be headed career-wise.
It also sounds like you've got some of the ingredients of good practice for voice acting going there. Dig around the auditions and have a go at roles that interest you; it's an excellent way of practicing and discovering your vocal capabilities. And don't worry, you'll find quite a few fellow bronies here!
There's definitely no rush in getting out a demo reel or website, especially if you're just getting started. Take the time to learn about your voice and about the craft. If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out the board's shared wisdom in the Guides, Tips & Advice section. You'll find a lot of helpful information there that's particularly useful if you're new to voice acting.
Enjoy your stay!

Thanks Minty!
And, as I was kind of expecting, I didn't make the callbacks for that one project I auditioned several roles for. But I at least requested a critique by the guys in charge of it so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong, which can make a massive difference. And I did in fact find some great advice to get myself started from the section you mentioned. I'm currently trying to figure out how to breathe through the diaphragm, although its going to take some time for it to become second nature. Being rejected from that one project kinda freed up my time enough to start checking out the other auditions on here too! So it seems that starting on the wrong foot was, in fact, the right way to do this.
