Ok, there's nothing particularly scary about the game. Average to sub-par graphics, overly used setting and mood, and a particularly nondescript bad guy. So why the hell am I so stressed out after just 12 min. of experiencing Slender?

A couple days ago, on September 5th, Batman: the Animated Series turned 20 years old.

Created by Paul Dini and featuring the voice talents of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil, this phenomenal and landmark animated series that defied expectations. It is my personal opinion that it is the best and, perhaps, the most important animated series in the world.

How revolutionary this series was cannot be understated. It brought gritty noir, heartbreaking tragedy, and compelling drama to child audiences and proved that animation could speak on the larger issues of the nature of society and humanity. Without this series, Nolan's excellent Dark Knight trilogy wouldn't exist. Neither would The Avengers or any other superhero movie that dared to take its subject matter seriously like Batman: the Animated Series did.

The series has aged incredibly well; from the slick and beautiful traditional hand-drawn animation to the stories and the themes in them. I think most people's favorite episode is Heart of Ice. It is Shakespearean in its inspiration and tragedy. It's the tale of a briliant mind who in trying to save his beloved is turned into an inhuman monster by a cold and uncaring corporate executive. If that doesn't resonate in this age of the Occupy movement and corporate exploitation of politics, I don't know what will.

I remember spending my childhood watching this series and from that moment on, I've been a fan of both Batman and the genres of noir and detective fiction. I love this series and I'm happy to see Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, and Mark Hamil see success beyond this series.

@Mek: Amen to that brutha. The title screens always creeped me out, but that never deterred me from watching all the way through. Batman: TAS is really one of the all time greats.

I miss that show. Would love to stream, but it seems to be only available in American locales. *le sigh*

CO-Created by Paul Dini, Aramek. As far as I'm concerned, the show is more Bruce Timm's than Paul Dini's; the art deco, the dark colors and the simplistic character-designs were developed by Timm.

I love Bruce Timm. He's always been a hero of mine.

Batman: TAS is, in my opinion, the quintessential Batman project. As you've said, if it wasn't for this wonderful series, other Batman projects would not have been possible.

Mr. Freeze would have stayed an arch-typical mad scientist. Harley Quinn would not exist. Batman and Bruce Wayne would have shared the same voice. The series turned Gotham into more than just a city; Gotham itself became a character, it's blood represented by the ever-red clouds in the sky.

I would be foolish if I didn't mentioned the music.

Everyone knows Danny Elfman's score for the Batman film, but, in my opinion, Shirley Walker's interpretation of that very score far exceeded Elfman's in substance. Watch ANY fan-made Batman film and you will hear HER score, not Elfman's. It is the music that plays in my head when I read the comics.

It's amazing, how all these things came together so perfectly into one awesome show.

My best friend/girlfriend is finally quitting her shitty job and moving to Boston for a couple months. I've wanted nothing more for the past few years, so why am I now having stress dreams and doubts about her moving in with me, even if temporarily?

The bachelor lifestyle has been good to me. I don't know if I'm ready to give up being secretly gross.

The furthest I've gotten before was giving an ex my key. Even then, it didn't bother me as much because I knew she would never come over. Which she didn't. I am so emotionally immature

My brother's girlfriend has moved in with him. On one hand, I'm proud of him, as he's never had a serious girlfriend, just dozens of floozies, on the other, I'm sad that I can't really visit because...she's there.
