Forum Rules: Read Me Before Posting! « Thread Started on Aug 27, 2005, 7:11pm »
Welcome to the VAC boards! Now, we know that pretty much anything goes on Newgrounds, but here we've got a few more specific rules, the purpose being to make this board a nice place and avoid flame wars. Here we go.
1. General Conduct. Respect the members and guidelines of this community. Flaming, insulting, or harrassing other members is unacceptable. Debates and other issues should be handled in a civil, mature manner. When it comes to auditions, we all know rejection sucks, but if you don't get cast for a project you auditioned for, please avoid posts that guilt-trip the producer with things like "I'm so disappointed...guess I still have a lot to work on" etc. Congratulate the cast or say nothing.
2. Personal Issues. Stop the drama. We've seen it numerous times on NG, but we don't need it here. If you're going to fight with someone, take it to Private Messaging or somewhere off the boards. Also in terms of personal issues: personal threads are fine when relevant to the community or asking for advice, but please do not make "blog"-type threads about how you hate life or what you did that day; that kind of stuff is for Livejournal or Myspace.
3. Criticism. When posting a review of someone's work, keep it constructive. Telling a member "You suck at voice acting" or "You've got no talent" is just rude and uncalled for. There is a difference between giving honest critiques--which are perfectly welcome--and just being a jerk.
4. Spam. Avoid spamming or posting off-topic threads. If you post in the wrong category for your topic, don't be surprised if a moderator moves your post. Unlike NG we have a feature called "edit post" so please try to use that rather than triple/quadruple posting. If you need voice actors and no one is helping you at the moment, you may 'bump' your current thread in moderation (no more than once per day), but do not make a new thread unless you are opening new auditions. If you notice someone spamming in a thread, report it or wait for one of the moderators to handle the situation as they see fit; don't make more spam by continually pointing out the situation.
5. Two-Person Conversations. Avoid using the boards as an instant messenger service. If you're engaged in a conversation between the same group of people which isn't relevant to the general community, continue it over e-mail or IM instead.
6. Inappropriate Content. Racism, hate speech, and pornographic content is not allowed. (Because this is largely a flash website, links to mature-themed flash movies are generally acceptable so long as a warning is posted beforehand.) Do not link to or post about XXX, gambling or malware sites; such links will be removed and the account will be suspended. Please do not post images which contain nudity or extreme gore. The administration has final say on whether or not an image or link is appropriate. In addition, unlawful conduct on the boards is not permitted, including (but not limited to) offering or requesting illegal downloads of games/movies/software.
7. Advertising. Please do not make topics saying things like "I'm a VA, anyone wanna hire me?" If you want to find more work, be active on the boards and audition for projects. In addition, if you wish to make advertising posts about your own forum or website, please keep it to the Website Links section. Accounts registered for the sole purpose of promoting a third-party product or service will be deleted immediately.
8. Signatures. Signature images must not exceed 500 pixels in width or 200 pixels in height. Please be courteous to others by not 'stretching out' the threads; if your signature is too large, a moderator will PM you asking you to resize it, or it may be deleted without warning.
9. Text. As much as possible, please try to type properly without overuse of netspeak, random capitalization, etc (ex: "i ned ViOcEs so if u r intersted pLzzZz ml me") Correct spelling and grammar is appreciated to aid in readability of your posts, especially considering that not everyone on the board's first language is English.
Possible Consequences for Flaming and/or Spamming: 1. Warning/Topic Lock 2. Temporary Ban (3-7 days) 3. Permanent Ban
Above all, enjoy yourself and respect the moderators and other members and you shouldn't have a problem.
If you feel the way a moderator handled an infraction was offensive or not in accordance with the community guidelines of the VAC, please PM me with a link to the thread in question and why you feel the matter should be investigated. Thanks!
I will only come here to request for voice actors, and even then it won't be common. If I come here to request voice actors, it's usually for something important.

Hmmm. Well, to be honest, I haven't read the Newgrounds rules in quite some time. These are the rules that I believe should be in place on the board, and I certainly did not intend to copy anything from any other websites.

and besides, who cares cif it is the same, just means it's effective (even though ours is WAY more effective than NG due to not worrying too much about the avg hits of our forums)

I agree with you on that one. Some of the things I've seen on NG make me want to punch my monitor in rage.

It's true that the rules are similar, but you have to admit that if everyone plays by a similar 'Code of Conduct' across all sites, than adaptation should be simpler in the long run.

Slight amendment to Rule 1.
Today, James and I discovered we both had been noticing the increasing amount of offering/requesting illegal downloads---this is particularly a problem in the Gamers' Lounge. I did a small bit of research, and the gaming companies are pretty strict about shutting down sites where this sort of thing occurs, so for the protection of this community and to allow it to continue to provide the resources which it was originally intended for, please do not discuss illegal activity (this type or otherwise) on the boards. Thank you.

I have a question. I would like to place a banner ad for my Voice Acting website, on your site. Who would I talk to, to find out more info? Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to your reply. ~Katie
