 How to practice Sound effects
« Thread Started on Sept 10, 2012, 1:24pm »

I'm completely new to this kind of thing, so how would I go about practicing all the different sound effects? So far, I have only been reading scripts and trying to throw them in where they make sense with the emotions, but I kind of need to work on practicing them on their own.

By sound effects I mean stuff like, whistles, grunts, yells, laughs, sighs, etc.

The only thing you can do is to practice them. Don't hold yourself back because you're scared parents/roommates/neighbors/whatever will hear you...you'll never sound genuine if you do.

Prreeeeetttyyy much. You just gotta practice them until they're organic and consistent with the character's personality, voice, etc.

Just remember that even though they're non-verbal, they have motivation and reason like any other line so they don't sound like flat sounds in an empty vacuum with no discernible source. If you want a challenge, try going through a whole scene with no words, just sounds to indicate how you're feeling, what you want, what's happening to you, and so on.
